AED energy-cost formula

Estimate 3D-printer electricity cost in the UAE

Use average power, not the printer’s maximum power-supply rating. The heater cycles during a print, so a plug-in power meter gives a better real-world average than the label on the machine.

Formula

(Watts ÷ 1,000) × hours × AED per kWh

Example: a printer averaging 120 W for 8 hours uses 0.96 kWh. Multiply 0.96 by the electricity rate shown on your own bill or tariff.

Measure accurately

Use an average over the full print

Bed heating, nozzle heating, chamber temperature, ambient conditions and print duration affect consumption. Measure several representative jobs instead of assuming one number applies to every print.

Do not confuse energy cost with selling price

Include material and waste

Count model material, supports, purge, failed-print allowance and spool cost.

Include machine time

Account for maintenance, wear, depreciation and the opportunity cost of keeping the printer occupied.

Include labour

Preparation, slicing, monitoring, finishing, packing and customer communication are real work.

Add margin after costs

Profit should be added after the full job cost is understood, not calculated from electricity or filament alone.
